I don't even remember the last time that I made a blog entry. I'm sure it was a while ago and there have been a lot of things that happened since then, but of course I have not written about them. I guess the last thing was doing research for a video camera I still have not purchased one as of yet because I have not sold my motorcycle. My placement through school was fine and looks like I might get a contract of a deal for six months. It takes a long time for these processes to come through. Our new neighbors moved and they're pretty cool and there has been a lot of work done to the back. Even though would be nice if we get the whole deck done. I'll try to make a conscious effort to write in this blog more often but I don't see it happening.

I know that I have not put to much effort into my blog at the last little while. It is because I have didn't really busy with school. It seems that I'm always a busy with school but I am making progress. Yesterday I registered my domain name DaveChapman.ca! This is great because it has not been taking yet. I am going to work on the flash component of my web site day I think. I finished getting all my stuff done for John's class I'm glad that I have all of this extra time because it allows me to work on the things that I need to work on. But today is a very special because it is voting day I'm still not sure who I'm going to vote for. It seems to me that this election is very important, I'm scared that the conserved is mike in not because I hold any malice towards them by their agenda is almost entirely corporate paste which I believe is the true problem with contemporary society. I know there are lot of economic implications that warrant corporate profitability but I believe this party has shifted its balance too far to these interests.

I called and talked to Rogers myself and it seems that they can not take the filter off. I suggest switching to 3web. They are a cable internet company and with 6mb service 24.95 a month and $5 for modem rental. I talked to TRACY one of their service reps and there is NO TRAFFIC FILTERING!!

I have some news about my Mohawk, I have to cut it. I think that I am going to have to change the name of my blog now. Well I have started a new blog about politics in the glebe. I Hope to maintain it throughout the campaign until Election Day. Also I am looking forward to the debate on Friday.

I have been working for Ben the last three days and it has been interesting, I really don’t want to continue it as a regular job. I still like doing it in moderation.

I Still have a lot of work to do for school and it is related to my favorite program in the world, DIRECTOR. I am having trouble with the programming language and usually I am so good with this sort of thing. I am taking the next two days off until I can get it all done.

It is also my sisters birthday to day and the next thing that I have to do is Call her, The last thing that I want to have happen is to forget to call her (I am still pissed that I did it to my dad). I have so new things to report on in the web world that I am trying to find a niche in.

Election Time

Well it is political time once again and this time I have the pleasure to be in the ridding of Ottawa center. I love it here because of the diversity of people and Political parties. I am hoping to collect a sign from every candidate in this ridding. I already have a sign from the Green party. Their headquarters are right down the street at where the old skate shop use to be. It is all run down and shitty looking but everyone is happy, I was their when they got their high speed internet.

I also talked to the candidate for the Conservative party of Canada. Their campaign office is on the same block as I am but no one is every there. I know that the NDP and Liberals are in this ridding, Of course. I am pretty sure that the Marijuana party has a candidate here and so does the Communist party of Canada.

My friend Trevor came up for the weekend and I had to much fun. It was great to see him and Vicky. I only wish Molson could come up too but oh well. Next time I hope to get Mark and Navine to head up to Montreal too. I am also going to write up a proposal for the cottage that we want to rent on this summer. It WILL happen this year and It will be great.

Getting close to the end of the year now and I am really busy with my work but It is all coming together and soon I am going to have a great looking website will all of my projects on it. See what it is like now at

Working for the end of the year

I have a lot of things that are due in the next four days.
There is a lot of PHP stuff that I have to do for Bob.
I have to get my 3D house done by Friday which is a chore.
I need to get a business plan together for Friday.
And some action Script for Tuesday’s class.

It will get harder but I have been through worse.

I went to Jay's today and set up his Garage door opener for him. It got me thinking again that working in construction was such a useful thing to do. Ben, My boss, is going to get me working for a week before Christmas. I am looking forward to working with my hands again and getting done what needs to get done. Brie and I are looking more at jobinthesun.com this could have been brought about because of winter. I got my degree framed and put on the wall and now I am looking forward to putting my Diploma beside it.

A Lazy Sunday

Well

It is Sunday today and I want to make sure that I am keeping up with this once a week Blog entry. I am glad that this is part of our school work. I finally was able to get my project working on Friday after being at if for 3 days. Bob eventually helped me to repair it, he did it in like 2 seconds. I both hate it and like it when people do that, I only wish It had happened when I ran into the problem. I went to the Dynamic Drive website in order try and find something like what I was working on. I did but the JavaScript was so dam complicated. Its like they add in tons of bullshit in order to create the illusion of complexity. I hope that most of the web design community simply crlt-C-crtl-V's the code in place. If I have to understand every nuances of this code then I am in trouble. Bob gave me a good tip which was to strip their code down to it's bare minimum and then tweak it. I really wish that we were learning JavaScript more in this program! I have to teach myself every step and it is difficult to say the least.
Right now I have to work on Director so I am programming in LINGO, I am not impressed with this language. No only it is a cross between Verbose and dot syntax but I don't know what industries are using it! John is also making it difficult to keep up with the class. It seems that I am constantly working on his code. Is director a program used for the web? If so then why aren't we learning something like Action Script? (the industry seems to be using Flash more extensively). If Director is not used primarily for the web then why not learn C++ or another more universal programming language. I just want to know that when I get out into the field and say that I have experience with Director people won't say, "what the hell is director, is it like Flash?"

Graduation day.

Today I graduated officially from Carleton University. It was a good day all around, my father was here for most of the weekend and my Uncle Ron went to my graduation. It was great to see family there, So much support. I was a little concerned that everyone was so happy that I graduated, like they did not think I was going to be able to do it or something. I know everyone was just exited. The ceremony was great, I had the pleasure to shake hands with Marc Garneau the first Canadian astronaut. I was very concerned that the Alumni pin that I received was attach to an advertisement of a certain Popular AAC player.

In my eye this discredits the University a lot. To think that someone, with enough authority, actually thought it was a good idea to show this stupid picture of someone getting their graduation picture taken with a diploma in one hand and the before mentioned AAC player in the other. F@KING SICK! The possible space is for sale, I wanted to take the advertisement and put it on the mace that was at the head of the ceremony. Maybe yell out, "I could have never done it without the help of MacDonald’s and Microsoft!!!" maybe they would have paid for some of my tuition. Would that be wrong? How intrusive must advertisements be before it is too much?

So is my degree really worth something or not. Who I am is partly because of Carleton and what I have learned there. Most professors are sincere and passionate about what they teach. I guess that my saving grace is the fact that a larger enough cross section of the population does not understand the full ramification of the degradation of a post secondary institution. They simply run through the motions without considering the changes.

Remembrance Day

Today is Remembrance day and I observed a moment of silence. I think that it is very important; the least I could do for those who fought in a war that I canÂt even begin to comprehend is stop what I am doing for 2 minutes. During the ceremony we song O- Canada and the lady singing the song replaced the phrase ÂGod Keep our landÂ to ÂOh, keep our landÂ. I thought it was kind of strange, I am not prepared at this time to discuss the full ramification of this question; I donÂt pretend to have the answer. I did however feel like something was off making it something to think about.

I also was thinking about a quote my father gave me the other day about Golfers. I was watching golf as a kid and was hoping that one of them would get it in the water and I see them wade out and hit the ball. (I did not understand golf rules at the time). I was disappointed when none of them hit it into the water. My father in his infinite wisdom said, ÂThe reason none of them hit it into the water was because they practice golf until their hands bleed, then to make their hands feel better they golf some more.Â To me this lesson translates into, to be great at something you have to do it till it hurts and then do it to feel better. Not quite the best idea for a balanced life but indeed a definite formula for success.

My father came to visit today and then I showed him this blog and he came up with another good quote. "once you buy in, it all makes sense" this can pertain to any subject you want. If you believe this statement then you have proven it.

Despotism and contempory Society

I recently watched a film from http://www.archive.org the film was entitled Despotism. I was wondering if how we define despotism now is the same as we gauged it in 1946. If it differes from todays definition does that mean that our society has changed.

Take a scale 1= despotism and 10=democracy, such as in the film. In 1946 under this scale lets say that we are at 8. If we believe that this number has changed from 1946 is it the number that has changed or the scale that has changed.

I am specificly looking at the example of the farmer and his land in the film. By todays standards it is not a big deal to not own your farm, today it is a house. Everyone has a morgage that they will be paying for years and years. A large cross section of the population does not have the means to buy a house in cash. Did they ever?

The point is that it does not even come into question regarding despotism, while in 1946 it was a way of scaling it.

To day is the day that I started my Bolog. I was going to do this a bit later but I had to do it for one of my classes at school. I am kind of glad that I am doing it now. I think the most important thing that i should write is my Web page Address which is

right now it is under construction but the gist of it is there. The reason that i started this page and I am doing this project is because when I went out to get information on maintaining a mohawk I could not find a good resourse site. I figure that this hair style is getting past the punk phase. Peopel that are not from that demographic are going to start wearing them and they will need help to improve their look.

I am also looking for imformation from other people. Their experiences they have had wearing them. What kids say when they see them (the best reason I have found to keep mine)
